Performing a Hard Reset 

NOTE: Back up all your data before performing a hard reset.

Before performing a hard reset, you can save all your data in iPAQ File Store and then perform a hard reset. After performing a hard reset, you can reinstall the applications on the iPAQ device. Follow the steps provided in the following sections.
Step 1: Checking memory availability in iPAQ File Store folder

 Save all the important programs and files in the iPAQ File Store folder before you perform a hard reset. Before saving files to the iPAQ File Store folder, it is a good idea to determine how much memory is available in the folder.
Follow these steps to view the available memory in iPAQ File Store folder.
  1. Tap Start > Settings > System > Memory > Storage Card .
  2. Select iPAQ File Store from the list.
Step 2: Saving files and programs in iPAQ File Store folder

Follow these steps to save files to iPAQ File Store folder:
  1. Copy all the files to be saved to the iPAQ File Store folder.
  2. Tap Start > Programs > File Explorer > My HP iPAQ > iPAQ File Store .
  3. Tap Edit > Paste .
CAUTION: iPAQ File Store might contain a special folder called hp to store system files. Do not save new files or modify existing files in the hp folder.

Step 3: Performing hard reset

Follow these steps to perform a hard reset of the device.
  1. Hold the Record , Start/Windows , OK buttons at the same time and and then using the stylus, press and release the Reset button.

  2. Continue holding the Record , Start/Windows , and OK buttons.
  3. Clean Boot message displays indicating successful restoration of factory settings on your device.
Step 4: Reinstalling applications on your device

To reinstall applications on your device after performing a hard reset, use the Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) on your computer. ActiveSync 4.5 (or later) is required for Host PC which is running with Microsoft Windows XP or 2000. WMDC is required for Host PC which is running with Microsoft Windows Vista.
  • In ActiveSync: Select Tools > Add/Remove Programs , and then select any programs you want to reinstall.
  • In WMDC: When the device is not synchronizing, select Programs and Services >Add/Remove Programs . Select the programs you want to reinstall and click OK .
